Internet Search Engine Information
Mrs. Welsh's favorite Internet Search tools are:

Google
and

Kids Logo
and

Yahooligans

Search engines are huge databases of Internet information that are created by special software running on powerful computers. These roving "robots" or "spiders" scan the Internet, connect to different sites, and record information into large databases. The databases which are created are searchable. These engines cover many more web sites than a directory. Best tool to use when searching for specific information.

Internet directories are manually-created catalogs of sites. The information is classified into broad categories and varying levels of sub-categories. Best tool to use for locating information about a broad topic.

Be sure to try more than one search engine or directory as they often contain different information. There may also be times when one engine is particularly busy with other search requests. Searching other engines/directories will allow you to "avoid the long lines".
