Performance Objectives:  

S11. While stationary, the student will strike a stationary ball, using a lateral swing with an implement held in two hands, over a specified distance.
S12. While stationary, the student will strike a ball in flight, using a lateral swing with an implement held in two hands.
T6. While stationary/moving the student will throw a small ball in a bouncing/flight pattern overhand with the dominant hand.
T7. While stationary/moving, the student will throw a small ball in bouncing/flight pattern sidearm with the dominant hand.
T8. While stationary/moving, the student will throw a small ball into flight to a given height from various arm positions with the dominant hand.
T9. While stationary/moving, the student will throw a small ball into flight to a given height for a specified distance from various arm positions with the dominant hand.
C1. While stationary/moving, the student will catch with two hands a small ball that is rolling/flight/rebounding/bouncing from a vertical surface to the various positions of the body.
C2. While stationary/moving, the student will catch with the dominant hand a small ball that is rolling/bouncing/rebounding/flight from a vertical surface to the various positions of the body.
C3. While stationary/moving, the student will catch with an implement(glove) a small ball that is rolling/bouncing/rebounding/flight from a vertical surface to the various positions of the body.

 

 

Rules:

Slow Pitch Softball / Whiffleball

Infield         that portion of the field including the area within the diamond made by the baselines.

Out Field   that portion of the field which is outside the diamond (infield and between the foul lines beyond  1st and 2nd base.

Equipment:  mask and body protectors must be worn by the catchers.  Gloves may be worn by any player, but mitts may be used only by the catcher and the lst baseperson.  A softball and bat.

 

Definitions: 

Strike:    A legally pitched ball that is struck at and missed, foul ball not caught (except 3rd strike) or a pitched ball which passes over home plate between the batter's armpits and knees.

Strike Zone:  Between batter's armpits and knees and over some part of home plate.

Ball:  A legally pitched ball that is outside of the strike zone, or that touches the ground before it reaches home plate.  It is not struck at by the batter.

Walk:  Awarded to the batter after 4 pitches are called balls by the umpire.   Batter goes to lst base, other baserunners advance if forced.

Foul Ball:  A legally batted ball that settles in foul territory in the infield or that lands in foul territory in the outfield.  It counts as a strike until two strikes have been made.

Double Play:  A play that the defense makes in which two offensive players are legally put out as a result of continuous action.

Line Drive:  An aerial ball that is batted sharply and directly into the playing field.

Force-out:  This occurs when the base runner is forced to advance to the next base because the batter hit a fair ball and another baserunner is coming into her/his base.   The baserunner need not be tagged, but may be put out by the ball being thrown to the baseman to which the runner is going.

Count:  This is the number of balls to the number of strikes the batter has during her time at bat. (i.e. 2 and 2 = 2 balls and 2 strikes).  Always balls are said first.

Infield Fly Rule:  The batter is out when s/he hits an infield fly, which could easily be handled by a fielder. A baserunner must be on lst for this rule to be in effect.

Overthrow:  Any thrown ball from the fielder to another, to put out a runner which goes into foul territory on a play at first, third or home. (ground rule----runners may advance only one base on an over throw)

Inning:  That portion of the game during which each team gets a turn at bat.   A regulation game shall consist of 7 innings, which each inning having 3 outs per team.  The visiting team always is first at bat.  If the home team is ahead at the top of the seventh and the visitors do not tie up the game or go ahead, the game is over.

Pitching: 

1.  Ball must be pitched underhand

2.  Pitcher shall take no more than one step before releasing the ball

3.  Pitcher shall make no motion to pitch without releasing the ball

4.  Pitcher shall start with both feet on the pitcher's plate

5.  Pitcher must come to a full and complete stop with the ball in front of him/her in both hands for at least one second before starting her/his pitch.

6.  The ball must describe an arc sometime during its flight to the strike zone.

Batting

1.  A regular batting order shall be maintained throughout the game.   Substitutes must bat in the place of the player whose place s/he is taking.   This does not apply to pinch hitters.

2.  A batter shall be called out if:

    a.  3 strikes are made or called

    b.  any fair or foul fly ball is caught

    c.  batter is hit by her/his own batted ball in fair territory before it is played by a fielder

    d.  batter becomes a baserunner if struck by a pitched ball, unless she makes no effort to get out of the way of the ball.

    e.  batter steps out of the batter's box while s/he is attempting to bat a pitched ball.

Baserunning

1.  Baserunner must touch every base in order

2.  Runner may overrun a base only on first without the chance of being put out.   S/he must run out to the right of the base.

3.  Runner may not lead off the base until the ball crosses over home plate.

4.  Runner shall return and retouch the base when a fly ball, fair or foul, is caught before s/he may advance.

5.  Baserunner is out:

    a.  when tagged by the ball before retouching the base as long as the tagger has controlled the ball for 5 seconds.

    b.  if  the ball reached the base before the runner on a force-out

    c.  if legally touched by the ball when off the base except while over-running 1st.

    d.  if the runner leaves the base before the ball crosses home plate

    e.  when the ball is thrown to the base which the runner left before a fly ball was caught

    f.  when struck by a batted ball which has not been touched by a fielder.

6.,  Baserunner is safe:

    a.  if tagged by a ball which is juggled or fumbled by the player making the tag

    b.  if a fielder without the ball blocks a baseline in the runner's path unless this fielder is actually field the ball at that spot

7.  If the third out is made on a play and a runner comes in on that same play, the runner does not count

8.  Runner is also out if s/he runs more than 3 feet outside the baseline

9.  Runner shall not steal any base.
