Performance Objectives:

S13. While stationary/moving, the student will strike a stationary/rolling ball with the dominant/nondominant foot.
S14. While stationary/moving, the student will strike(dribble) a rolling ball with the dominant/nondominant foot.
S15. While stationary/moving, the student will strike a stationary/rolling ball over a specified distance with the dominant/nondominant foot.
S16. While stationary/moving, the student will strike a ball in flight with the dominant/nondominant foot.
C5. While stationary/moving, the student will trap with the dominant/nondominant foot a large ball rolling/bounding/rebounding/flight to the various positions of the body.

Rules:

1.  Team Captains are responsible for:  making sure all students are actively involved and get to play all positions on the field during some part of the day/tournament, reporting scores to Mr. Tranter at the end of class.

2.  Game begins with the soccer ball placed in the center of the field.   Paper, rock, scissors determines which team starts with the ball with a dribble.

3.  Goal scores if:  the ball travels below the waist of the goalie, between the small cones that mark the goal area, and does not touch the cones.  Goalies may not use their hands (feet only).

4.  When he ball travels out of bounds for any reason, the opposing team dribbles the ball into the field of play from where the ball went out of bounds.

5.  No dangerous play, inappropriate language, or slide tackles are allowed.

6.  If a disagreement occurs settle the argument with the captains by using:   rock, paper, scissors.

7. Option #1 Tournament:   Winning teams move one field toward the #1 field.  Non-winning teams remain on that field.  Exceptions:  on the #1 field, non-winning teams move to the last field. Option #2 Tournament: Round Robin and use rotation board as seen in one of the pictures below.

8.  Captains keep daily score and record:  3 points for win, 2 points for tie, and 1 point for loss.  If a tie occurs, each team receives 2 points.   However, the captains decide who moves to the next field by using:  rock, paper, scissors.

Students working on unit:

Activity: Attendance squads

The student enter the gym every day and run two laps around the gym and do five sit-ups and five pushups. Next, they sit in their assigned attendance squads that are set up according to the team they have been put on by the teacher.  We then stretch out as a group with students leading the exercises.  After stretching, the students get the instructions for the day and the class begins.  When the gym is not available we do the above activities outside. The bottom right picture is the tournament board that we use to explain all team and field assignments for in class tournaments.

Activity:  Paper-Rock-Scissors

Before a game may begin each team picks a representative to do paper-rock-scissors in order to decide which team will kick off.   This is also used to decide calls regarding boundaries and any simple disagreement that occur within the game.

Field Equipment: Mini Soccer Goal

Each goal is numbered with the appropriate field number to assist in assigning fields for the tournament.  The triangle represents the space that a player can only go into if the ball goes into this area first.  This keeps teams from just standing in front of the goal and blocking shots, and it encourages them to go up the field to try and score instead of playing a defensive oriented strategy only.

Activity: Small Sided Games

The students are playing four against four in a round robin tournament.  Each game lasts about five minutes.  We are not recording score in this tournament because it is the first one of the school year and we want to promote cooperation skills as much as possible.
