A magical learning experience: Indian Hill Global Cultural Week

Primary School Global Cultural Week Celebration

Twenty-five different nationalities represented within the District, and one magical experience for Braves. The Indian Hill School District’s debut Global Cultural Week (February 4 – February 8) was one to remember! In partnership with the Indian Hill Global Group, a parent-based group supported by the Indian Hill PTO, Braves enjoyed a week-long cultural learning celebration across the District.

“Our Indian Hill Promise incorporates supporting the beauty of the diversity in all our students; Global Cultural Week was a perfect opportunity to join with our Global Group to create an incredible educational experience for our Braves to learn from our partners in education – our parents,” said Indian Hill Superintendent Dr. Mark Miles.

The Global Cultural Week began at Indian Hill Primary School where Braves created flags reflecting the nationalities of the families within the Indian Hill School District. It continued at Indian Hill Elementary School where students listened to songs from different nations while learning lessons on currency, geography, and topography from different countries. Indian Hill High School students enjoyed a Global Day complete with an international poem and art exhibit and delicious samples of foods from Cuba, China, India, and Europe. The celebration concluded at Indian Hill Middle School at the Global Fair where parents represented approximately 20 nations and shared with students the uniqueness of their country through individual Q&A sessions.

“This District is fortunate to be able to share our richly diverse cultures in our school community through this event and many others during the school year,” said Indian Hill Assistant Superintendent Dr. Melissa Stewart. “Specific to Global Competence – a strategic focus area within our District’s GOLD Strategic Plan, we strive to prepare students to understand and prosper in a diverse global community to successfully lead, engage, and serve others. The objective is to develop meaningful student experiences throughout grade levels and beyond the Indian Hill School District. This week was an exemplary example of that goal in action, and we offer a most sincere thank you to our Indian Hill Global Group for making this possible for our Braves.”
