From artistic and informational murals displayed at every building within the Indian Hill School District, to student presentations about famous African Americans, to a play about Rosa Parks by Cincinnati Children’s Theatre, to daily announcements highlighting prominent and impactful African American figures in history – Braves are celebrating African American history the entire month of February. The District partnered with the Indian Hill (IH) Parent Equity Group to plan the educational events this month.

“Our parents are one of our greatest resources within the Indian Hill School District, and we work in collaboration with them multiple times throughout the school year to develop a rich learning-centered culture for students and staff,” said Indian Hill Assistant Superintendent Dr. Melissa Stewart.

Founded in 2016, the IH Parent Equity Group consists of parents from a multitude of racial, cultural, and religious backgrounds who support the Indian Hill School District initiative to bring racial awareness and cultural competency into the District and community.

“In addition to the learning planned during February and throughout the school year within our classrooms, the IH Parent Equity Group also helped our District to identify ways our students could celebrate diversity at home with their families,” said Dr. Stewart. “Cultivating an environment that fosters quality learning for students and staff by creating pathways to explore and maximize each individual’s character and academic talents – this is what it means to be a Brave, and we sincerely thank our parents for helping us to refine and realize this goal.”
