Celebrating Global Culture at the Indian Hill School District

IHES Global Cultural Celebration 2020

Each January, the Indian Hill School District looks forward to an annual celebration with an academic focus: Global Cultural Celebration Week. This event happens at each of our buildings and in partnership with our Indian Hill Global Group – a parent-based group supported by the Indian Hill PTO. Our students, grades K-12, enjoy a week-long cultural learning adventure with exposure to more than 40 different nationalities represented within our District.

The international party takes place this year from January 24-28. Friday, January 28 the much-anticipated Global Fair, which is the final day of our celebration, will be set up at Indian Hill Primary School. Our District will honor the 2021-2022 Global Cultural Week through these activities:

Indian Hill High School (IHHS)
The Indian Hill Global Parent Group will host an international food sampling on Thursday, January 27 during lunch. Students in grades 8-12 will be able to sample delicious international cuisine. The IHHS student body will also have the privilege of attending an assembly with global speaker and Cincinnati native Katelyn Jarvis. Additionally, students will participate in virtual cultural activities throughout the week, with the opportunity to win prizes. Daily, a slideshow will play in the main lobby showcasing some interesting facts about the world around us.

Indian Hill Middle School (IHMS)
Indian Hill Middle School students will have a variety of activities throughout the week. IHMS grades 7-8 will participate virtually in the global speaker assembly with Katelyn Jarvis. They will also participate in virtual cultural activities and challenges throughout the week, with the opportunity to win prizes. Each day, students in grades 6-8 will be greeted with morning music representative of the many nations that IHMS students/families are from. Sixth-grade students will travel to Indian Hill Primary School on Friday, January 28 to participate in the Global Fair. The fair, which is hosted by the Indian Hill Global Group, is an incredible opportunity for students to discover more about the countries and cultures of many of our Indian Hill families.

Indian Hill Elementary School (IHES)
Every morning our IHES students participate in a morning meeting with their class. During this special week, all morning meetings will be focused on increasing awareness and understanding of countries and cultures of the world. Students will also have access to a global week website that offers opportunities for various global activities. Morning announcements will showcase countries and cultures and offer a moment for international music appreciation. Students in grades 3-5 will travel to Indian Hill Primary School on Friday, January 28 to participate in the Global Fair.

Indian Hill Primary School (IHPS)
For our youngest Braves, a daily slideshow will highlight many of the countries that our students are connected to. Morning meetings will focus on increasing awareness and understanding of countries and cultures of the world. Students will also have access to a global week website that offers opportunities for various global activities throughout the week. On Friday, January 28, students in grades K-2 will visit the Global Fair. While they are there, paper passports will be provided to the students, and they will be able to get their passports stamped!

We sincerely thank the Indian Hill Global Group for making this celebration possible for our students each school year. We are fortunate to be a part of a community that is infused with such global diversity!
