Indian Hill Middle School (IHMS) congratulates the five students who participated in the Power of the Pen District Tournament held online and hosted by the Seven Hills School. Braves competed alongside eight other schools and a total of 83 seventh- and eighth-grade students.

“Our writers demonstrated their expertise in and passion for writing, producing 15 original stories throughout the course of the competition,” said Dr. Kim Given, Brave Virtual Academy supervisor and Power of the Pen mentor.

Eight Indian Hill student-authored papers earned “Superior” ratings, and seven earned “Honors” ratings from Power of the Pen judges. Individual award-winners included: IHMS grade eight students Lillie Waltz (first place) and Grace Zhou (second place); IHMS grade seven students Audrey Shaefer (sixth place) and Luke Bergstrom (eighth place).

“We also want to note that Grace and Lillie earned first place in all three of their writing rounds, and Luke and Audrey also scored a first-place spot in one of their writing rounds,” said Dr. Given. “We are incredibly proud of the hard work all of our students put into the competition and taking a risk in sharing their writing with others.”
