The Indian Hill School District celebrates Indian Hill Elementary School student team of Carter Compton, Dylan Mikula, and George Herald, for winning The Stock Market Game Portfolio Challenge for grades 4-12, sponsored by the non-profit Alpaugh Family Economics Center, University of Cincinnati!

“We are extremely proud,” said Indian Hill Elementary School Principal Whitney Buell. “This is an incredible accomplishment, especially with our competitors being the youngest age group involved! What a testament to the financial literacy program our team has worked year over year to create.”

“Learning the stock market was hard at first but then it got easier,” said Indian Hill Elementary School student and winner George Herald.

“Our team worked very hard together and kept trying until the end. We never gave up, even when it was hard,” added teammate Dylan Mikula.

Two Indian Hill Elementary School teams advanced to The Stock Market Game Portfolio Challenge after winning the elementary division of The Stock Market Game twice this school year. The Indian Hill Elementary School student team of Jenny Willingham, Devyanshie Rautela, and Chloe Luther won in the fall of 2021. Compton, Mikula, and Herald won in the spring of 2022. All six students competed on Monday, April 25, 2022, at the University of Cincinnati along with middle school and high school students from across Ohio.

“I am proud of these students and all the students who participated,” said Betsy Gentile Henning, Indian Hill Elementary School Instructional Coach. “Financial literacy is important and beginning this understanding at an early age is so valuable. I am proud of their financial learning, and also the collaboration and communication skills they learned and practiced. They learned about much more than the Stock Market.”

Students prepared a presentation to demonstrate their learning in The Stock Market Game, including information about their strategy, understanding of the market, and team dynamics. Financial analysts from Huntington Bank judged the presentations.

“After presenting, I kept replaying it in my head,” said Indian Hill Elementary School student and winner Carter Compton. “I was happy because I got to share what I learned. I was proud because I presented in front of professionals and adults. I’ve never done anything like that before.”
