Library Volunteers
Dear Parents,

Our school library plays a significant role in your child’s education.  We need your help to provide the best library services to our children.

The library is an active place! Students will come with their Home Room classes for book talks, information retrieval skills and library skills instruction every week. Children also come independently for browsing, selection and research.

We would love to have you join our vital group of volunteers!  As a volunteer you may assist a child in book selection, help at the circulation desk scanning books, return books to the shelves, process new books or direct a child with a reference question.  No previous experience is necessary.  Mrs. Jones (Librarian) and Mrs. Murphy (Library Aide) will provide the needed volunteer training in the library.  Most of our volunteers assist at least twice a month for either a morning or afternoon session.  You can become a welcome part of your child’s school world and make a valuable contribution to Indian Hill Elementary School.

Please join us!  Your volunteer help is very much appreciated to maintain quality services to our staff and students!

Birthday Book Club

Dear Parent

Would you like to commemorate your child’s birthday in a lasting way at our school?  Our library has a Birthday Book Club, which provides families a unique opportunity to celebrate your child’s special day.

Families are asked to donate $16.00 to our Birthday Book Club to help underwrite the cost of a new book. The birthday child may then select from a new book which has already been ordered for our library collection.  Mrs. Jones (our school librarian) will be happy to suggest appropriate titles or favorite subjects suitable for each child’s age and interests.  There are always many wonderful titles from which to choose.  Summer birthdays are celebrated in May.

The library will put a birthday bookplate in the front of the selected book to identify this title as a lasting gift for our school’s collection.  Mrs. Jones will share the book with the birthday child’s class.  A Birthday Club display is on permanent exhibit in the library.  We will also post your child’s name as a donor on our Library Homepage through the school website.  What a wonderful way to emphasize the importance or reading with our children!  We are enjoying the many library book gifts from previous year’s birthday children that are currently in our collection.

Please complete the bottom form if you wish to participate in this program.  The form and money should be placed in an envelope labeled “Library Birthday Book Club”.  You are always welcome to visit our library.  Your support for new library materials is greatly appreciated.

My child (listed below) is authorized to select and donate to the Birthday Book Club as indicated.

Citation Samples

When you are writing a report it is important to correctly cite your sources. Here are some resources to help you do a bibliography correctly.  Be sure to check our Indian Hill High School webpage.  There are new sources for information, such as using YouTube and cell phone applications, and you’ll want to be current and up to date.
  • OSLIS Elementary Citation Maker – Oregon School Library Information System
  • – Fill in the blanks to make your bibliographies
  • Noodle Tools Quick Cite  – Mrs. Welsh thinks this site is great. It allows you to enter your own information
  • Son of Citation Machine– Citation machine helps students and professional researchers to properly credit the information that they use. Its primary goal is to make it so easy for student researchers to cite their information sources, that there is virtually no reason not to — because… SOMEDAY THE INFORMATION THAT SOMEONE ELSE WANTS TO USE… WILL BE YOURS!
  • Adventures of CyberBee – As use of Internet resources by students has increased, the question being asked is how do I cite this information in my reports? There are a number of ways being circulated in print and on the Internet. It is important to cite the author, date (if known), title, source, medium, and how the information is available.
  • BibMe – Leave the formatting to us.
