The Indian Hill School District proudly announces the participation of Indian Hill Middle School students Meadow Williams and Clairette Yang in the Jacob G. Schmidlapp Upstander Youth Leadership Day, held at the Nancy and David Wolf Holocaust and Humanity Center on Tuesday, March 5. Guided by Indian Hill Middle School teacher Brad Bell, who selected and chaperoned them for the event, these students showcased their leadership skills and talents, embodying the ideals of positivity and change in today’s world.

“The Jacob G. Schmidlapp Upstander Youth Leadership Day, organized by the VIA Institute on Character, is a prestigious workshop designed to empower young leaders from across the tri-state area,” said Indian Hill Middle School Principal Lauren Gentene. “Through this event, students like Meadow and Clairette had the opportunity to connect with their peers, share ideas, and learn valuable leadership qualities that are essential for navigating and influencing positive change in society.”

Reflecting on the day’s events, Meadow Williams expressed, “I met some new people and I learned that a leader can move a group when needed and make sure that everyone has a chance to participate in all activities.”

Similarly, Clairette Yang shared her insights, stating, “An upstander is someone who will actually take action to make a change to themselves or others.”

Bell, who played a crucial role in facilitating this enriching experience, highlighted the importance of such initiatives, “Seeking out and providing leadership opportunities for students attends to the Learners as the Whole Child part of our District’s strategic plan. Clairette’s and Meadow’s natural leadership ability and talent speaks well to and is yet another example of our Indian Hill students achieving and living the #IHPromise.”

The participation of Meadow and Clairette in the Jacob G. Schmidlapp Upstander Youth Leadership Day not only represents their individual achievements but also reflects the Indian Hill School District’s commitment to fostering leadership and character development among its students. Through opportunities like these, Indian Hill continues to nurture the next generation of leaders who are ready to make a positive impact in the world.
