The Indian Hill School District celebrates the Indian Hill Latin Club, renowned for its tradition of excellence, for once again demonstrating its exceptional talent and team spirit at the 2024 Ohio Junior Classical League (OJCL) Convention held in Columbus during March. The team's collective efforts culminated in a remarkable fifth-place finish overall, earning 531 sweepstakes points and bringing home 91 awards, including 40 top-five finishes.

“Our students once again proved that their passion for Latin and classical studies goes beyond the classroom,” said Melissa Burgess, Indian Hill High School Latin teacher and club advisor. “Their hard work, enthusiasm, and spirit of camaraderie were evident throughout the convention. It's truly inspiring to see them embrace the challenges and celebrate not just their victories but the joy of learning together.”

The convention was a showcase of skill, creativity, and passion for the classics, with Indian Hill Middle School and Indian Hill High School students participating in various competitions ranging from academic testing to creative arts. A standout achievement was the Intermediate Level Certamen team, consisting of Arpad Lallement, Michael Miller, Xavier Sharif, and Victor Zhang, who secured the first place in the state tournament, affirming their unparalleled knowledge of Latin and classical studies.

Further highlighting the breadth of talent within the club, Arpad Lallement distinguished himself not only as a member of the winning Certamen team but also through individual achievements, including being the ninth highest earner in creative arts sweepstakes points and the 14th overall in total sweepstakes points at the convention. His impressive feat of placing in the top 10 in every test offered at the OJCL convention underscores the dedication and skill prevalent among the club's members.

The club's creative flair was also on display through the Club Banner, crafted by Allen Beiter and Olivia Zhao, which received a commendable "Good" rating, showcasing the artistic talents within the club.

The club's success is a testament to the vibrant community of learners and educators at both Indian Hill High School and Indian Hill Middle School, dedicated to fostering an environment where classical studies thrive. With eight first-place awards across multiple categories, the Indian Hill Latin Club continues to set the standard for excellence in classical education in Ohio.
