The Indian Hill School District congratulates Indian Hill Middle School students Haddyn Backlund, Kaz On, and Olivia Zhao, who will advance to the Power of Pen State Competition following success at the regional event. Additionally, Haddyn Backlund won Best in Round for her story “The Mistake on the Battlefield”; she will be recognized at state for this achievement, with the potential to be published in the book of winners. Both seventh- and eighth-grade teams achieved exceptional performances during the regional tournament held on March 2 at Cincinnati Country Day School. Demonstrating both skill and determination, the seventh-grade team secured a third-place finish out of 32 participating teams, while the eighth-grade team also showcased strong competition by placing seventh.

“Our students' success at the regional tournament is a testament to their hard work, dedication, and passion for excellence,” said Indian Hill Middle School Principal Lauren Gentene. “Olivia, Kaz, and Haddyn exemplify the best of Indian Hill Middle School, and their achievements shine a light on the bright future of all our students. We look forward to cheering them on at state.”

The Power of Pen State Competition is set to take place at Ashland University in Ashland, Ohio, on Thursday and Friday, May 16-17, 2024.
