Indian Hill High School students shine in Governor's Awards for the Arts

Regional and State Winners

The Indian Hill School District celebrates the achievements of six exceptionally talented Indian Hill High School student-artists who have received prestigious regional recognition in the Governor's Awards for the Arts. Among these, one student has achieved the remarkable feat of having two pieces selected for display at the state level, distinguishing her work as some of the finest in Ohio.

In a rigorous competition that saw 842 entries at the regional level, only 156 pieces, representing the top 18 percent, were advanced to the state judging. The honored students from Indian Hill High School include Yvonne Gao with four pieces, Belinda Zhong with three, Alyssa Kerr with two, and Vivian Jenkins, Heidi Schellhas, and Jette Schulten, each with one piece recognized.

The competition intensified at the state level, where over 8,000 entries from across 15 regions were submitted. Of these, only 275 pieces were selected for the state show, placing Yvonne Gao’s two artworks in the elite top four percent statewide.

“We are incredibly proud of all our student-artists who participated in this highly competitive event. Their dedication, creativity, and hard work have truly paid off,” said Indian Hill Arts and Activities Director Amy Clark. “Special congratulations to Yvonne Gao for her outstanding achievement at the state level. Her success is a testament to the vibrant arts culture and the supportive educational environment at Indian Hill High School.”

Gao’s award-winning pieces will be showcased at the James A. Rhodes State Office Tower; the state-level exhibit will open on April 21 and continues until May 16.
