The Indian Hill School District congratulates Indian Hill High School Latin teacher Melissa Burgess for receiving the Summa Cum Laude Sponsor Award from the National Junior Classical League. Burgess was honored this July during the 69th annual National Junior Classical League (NJCL) Convention at the University of Louisiana.
“I was very honored to receive the Summa Cum Laude sponsor award from the NJCL,” said Burgess. “My involvement with the NJCL began when I was a high school Latin student, allowing me to compete with fellow Latin students from around the country and develop my leadership skills. Being a Junior Classical League sponsor and helping facilitate our Indian Hill Latin student participation in local, state, and national Junior Classical League activities and events are among the highlights of my teaching career so far.”
According to the NJCL website, the Summa Cum Laude Sponsor award was established as a means to recognize those sponsors who continually give of themselves to further the goals of the Junior Classical League at both the state and national levels. This Summa Cum Laude award, which may be viewed as Master Junior Classical League Sponsor recognition, is a token of thanks from the national organization for all the effort that these people have put into Junior Classical League over the years.
“We are fortunate to enjoy a robust Latin program within the Indian Hill School District, and our program thrives because of dedicated teachers like Ms. Burgess,” said Indian Hill Superintendent Kirk Koennecke. “We congratulate Ms. Burgess on this much-deserved recognition and thank her for exemplary instruction and true dedication to our students.”
