National Honor Society Information

Indian Hill National Honor Society is an organization committed to the values of scholarship, service, leadership, and character. The group members strive to create enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote worthy leadership, and to encourage the development of character in students of Indian Hill High School.  These four pillars have been associated with membership in the organization since its inception in 1921.

Membership:
  • Candidates eligible for selection to this chapter must be members of the sophomore or junior class.
  • To be eligible for selection to membership in this chapter, the candidate must have been enrolled for a period equivalent to one semester at Indian Hill High School.
  • Candidates eligible for selection to the chapter shall have a minimum unweighted cumulative grade point average of 3.5.
  • Upon meeting the grade level, enrollment, and GPA standards, candidates shall then be considered based on their service, leadership, and character.
  • Community Service Requirement:
    • Sophomore candidates must have a minimum of 30 hours (this may include the 20 hours IHHS requires for freshman and sophomore years) properly logged, verified by the adult who supervised the service and approved through the IHHS service coordinator, Mrs. Mendoza, by the last school day in January each year.
    • Junior candidates must have a minimum of 50 hours (this may include the 40 hours IHHS requires for freshman, sophomore and junior years) properly logged, verified by the adult who supervised the service and approved through the IHHS service coordinator, Mrs. Mendoza, by the last school day in January each year.
Timeline:
  • Community Service Hours are due on the last school day in January.  These hours must be properly logged, verified by the adult who supervised the service and approved through the IHHS service coordinator, Mrs. Mendoza, so candidates are advised to have all of their hours submitted before winter break.
  • Sophomore and Junior students who have both the community service requirement and have a minimum unweighted cumulative grade point average of 3.5 will receive a communication from the advisor inviting them to complete an information document for the Anonymous Faculty Committee to consider.
  • All complete information documents submitted on time are considered by a five-person anonymous faculty committee.  The Anonymous Faculty Committee will review all complete candidate information documents submitted on time along with information from the staff at Indian Hill High School and select candidates for membership.
  • All candidates who submit information to the Anonymous Faculty Committee will receive a communication from the committee after they have finished reviewing all information for all candidates.  Candidates selected for membership are inducted into National Honor Society at the end of April and new members will participate in May meeting for that year.
Students who have transferred to Indian Hill High School during their sophomore or junior year should see Mrs. Imrie with any questions regarding NHS and their community service hours as soon as possible.
